Babyproofing, level one

Why now

Rolling is imminent or here, and rolling is transport. The gap between 'can't move' and 'found the one cable in the room' is commonly a single afternoon.

Ask FirstWeeks anything about your baby

The crawl test

Get on the floor at baby height and tour the home: outlets at eye level, cords within pull-reach, small objects under furniture, plant pots, bag straps. What you can reach, baby will reach sooner than seems possible.

Is this normal for your baby?

FirstWeeks answers with your baby’s age and today’s log in mind — with pediatric sources attached.

Level-one checklist

Outlet covers; cords wrapped and routed high; the coin-sized-object sweep (toilet-roll-tube test: fits through = choking hazard); heavy tippables anchored — bookcases, dressers and the TV; houseplants audited; bags and their contents off the floor.

The zones approach

Fully proof one room as the free-roam zone rather than lightly proofing everything. One genuinely safe room means supervised freedom for baby and an occasional exhale for you.

What can wait

Stair gates matter at crawling, cabinet locks at cruising. Level one is about the floor world — do it this week, upgrade as mobility upgrades.

Less guessing tonight

Track the evening in one tap — then ask what it means.
