What’s happening
The 12-month milestones
Commonly by now: pulling to stand or steps, a word or two with meaning, pointing and waving, finding hidden objects, feeding self finger foods.
Vaccine round and after
The 12-month set (commonly MMR among others) can bring a delayed mild reaction — a fever or faint rash 7–12 days later is a known pattern; your pediatrician will brief you.
The milk switch
Formula retires; whole cow's milk enters (about 16–24 oz/day, in cups more than bottles) alongside real food. Breastfeeding continues as long as you both like.
What to do
- Do vaccines a day or two away from the party if you can
- Start milk as an open-cup drink with meals
- Begin the slow bottle phase-out — cups take over from here
When to check in
After 12-month shots: fever spikes above 104°F, or any reaction that worries you — call; the delayed-fever pattern is worth knowing in advance.
